Bijgaand de brief aan minister Bot (3 pagina’s incl. bijlagen), opgesteld door Wim en mij, geInspireerd door o.a. het initiatief van EMCEMO. We hebben ervoor gekozen steun uit te spreken voor de oproep van het International Coordinating Network on Palestine , vanwege de vele organisaties die daarin vertegenwoordigd zijn, maar ook vanwege het heldere eisenpakket.
\nEr zijn veel dingen die we ook in de brief hadden kunnen (en willen) zetten, maar we hebben toch maar gekozen voor een simpele en eenduidige boodschap. De Muur en andere zaken komen in de rest van deze aktieweek nog ruimschoots aan bod.
\nVanavond en morgen willen we steun verzamelen, en we hopen de brief a.s. dinsdag aan minister Bot te kunnen aanbieden. Daarvoor hebben we al contact gehad met zijn woordvoerder.<\/p>\n

Aan de Minister van Buitenlandse Zaken Betreft: Isra\u00eblische aanvallen op Palestina<\/p>\n Geachte heer Bot,<\/p>\n Ondergetekende organisaties en individuen vragen uw optreden in verband met de acute humanitaire en politieke noodsituatie in Gaza. <\/p>\n Wij vragen U zich krachtig uit te spreken tegen de Isra\u00eblische aanvallen op Gaza, de gijzeling van politici, de vernieling van regeringsgebouwen en essenti\u00eble infrastructuur, en de doodsbedreigingen aan de Palestijnse politieke top. Wij maken ons grote zorgen over het lot van de bevolking van de Gaza-strook, de meeste van hen reeds lang vluchteling. Tot nog toe hoorden wij nog geen Nederlandse reactie hierop.<\/p>\n Voorts sluiten wij ons aan bij de oproep (zie bijlage) van de International Coordinating Network on Palestine (ICNP) aan de internationale gemeenschap:<\/p>\n –\tom via de VN op te roepen tot directe be\u00ebindiging van de Isra\u00eblische aanval op Gaza en volledige terugtrekking van Isra\u00eblische troepen Namens de ondertekenaars,<\/p>\n Wim Lankamp Bijlage \u2013 Oproep International Coordinating network on Palestine dd 28 juni 2006<\/p>\n ORGANIZATIONS AT UN CONFERENCE CONDEMN ISRAELI ASSAULT ON GAZA<\/p>\n FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE For contact: AUSTRIA These attacks represent a massive collective punishment against the 1.3 million people of Gaza, and thus under international law constitute a war crime, violating Israel\u2019s obligations under the Geneva Conventions. The deliberate targeting and destruction of the main electrical generating plant, especially at the height of summer and at a moment in which the absolute siege of Gaza means there are virtually no fuel stocks available for local generators, mean that hospitals and patients at home needing electricity for insulin or other refrigerated medicines face disaster. The deliberate destruction of the already-eroded water system means that water is scarcer than ever. The humanitarian situation is catastrophic.<\/p>\n But the even greater catastrophe is political. Certainly it is true that these attacks ensure that a negotiated safe return of the captured Israeli soldier now becomes almost impossible. But, as ICNP co-chair Phyllis Bennis said, \u201cfar more significant is the reality that the re-occupation of Gaza reverses any possibility of new Israeli-Palestinian negotiations based on the recent Palestinian unity moves. As long as the Israeli occupation forces continue to surround and control Gaza (as well as the West Bank and Arab East Jerusalem), and as long as the United States continues its uncritical financial and political backing of Israel\u2019s occupation, and as long as the United Nations, Europe and the rest of the international community stand silent, these humanitarian catastrophes and the civilian deaths that will inevitably accompany them, will continue.\u201d<\/p>\n The ICNP urges<\/p>\n * The international community, through the United Nations, must call for an immediate end to the Israeli assault on Gaza and for a full withdrawal of Israeli forces. \n–\tvan Israel te eisen dat het vernielde infrastructuur onmiddellijk compenseert door herstelbetalingen aan de Palestijnen en ongehinderde doorgang verleent aan benodigde menskracht en materialen voor de herbouw
\n–\tIsrael ertoe te brengen dat het alle checkpoints in Gaza onmiddellijk verwijdert en Gaza\u2019s grenzen (met Isra\u00ebl en Egypte) heropent ter wille van vrije doorgang van personen en goederen

\nMeeting in Vienna under the auspices of the United Nations, the dozens of civil society and non-governmental organizations of the International Coordinating Network on Palestine (ICNP) condemns in the harshest terms the overnight Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip.<\/p>\n
\n* Israel must provide immediate compensation, paid in full to Palestinians for reconstruction of damaged electrical and water systems, and must ensure access into Gaza of all necessary personnel and equipment for such rebuilding.
\n* Israel must immediately remove all checkpoints within Gaza and reopen all Gaza\u2019s borders (with Israel and Egypt), and allow free flow of people and goods.
\n* All political prisoners and prisoners of war on both sides should be released, with particular urgency for the women and children prisoners in Israeli prisons.
\n* We agree with UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights John Dugard’s call for the international community to initiate a new creative diplomatic process to enable Israel and the Palestinians to resume negotiations towards ending occupation and ensuring a just peace in the region.
