Ramadan, from Gaza (4)

Hi Anja and Hi to all your weblog readers;

Last night was a very long one with no electricity and lots of fear. The middle area gets electricity from Israel only for 8 hours a day. Buriej Camp were I live was supposed to get its turn of electricity at 11 at night, this is the schedule we get from the electricity generating company in Gaza after being attached and disabled by the Israeli air force planes.

This night was similar to the night of starting the heavy military action of the Israelis on Gaza, Israeli tanks attacked and disabled the electricity transmitter that is on the borders of the camp with Israel. Neither Buriej nor all the camps in the middle area was able to live in the 21th century, dark, real dark and fear, believe me that the fear we are living is something you never get used to. At 12 midnight the tanks and the helicopters started moving around Al Maghazi camp which is a neighbor camp to my camp (Thanks God Mohammed and Mahmoud were a sleep). No one knows why the Israeli soldiers were attacking the camp, this camp that we call it in Gaza the peaceful camp. For the first moments we thought all the movements are against our camp but this was wrong. With all the silence the sound of the tanks and the crafts was very loud so I had to decide either to keep the windows of my house open because it is hot and there was no electricity (Mohammed and Mahmoud will wake up afraid of the noise) or to close the windows and live with the heat and humidity (also Mohammed and Mahmoud will be awake wondering why are the windows closed). I decided to keep the windows opened and be with Daliah together around the kids in case they hear the noise and wake up. Thanks God both didn’t and they were sleeping like angles. Daliah and I could not sleep at all and I had t go to work at 7 in the morning so I am now at work with no sleep at all with all the worries that the attack of the tanks will exceed Al Maghazi to our camp.

In the news, 3 Palestinian people were killed and around 31 are injured most of them are suffering lower limbs amputations and serious injuries. I think the number will increase rapidly in the coming ours if the tanks continue the attack.

Finally I have a question; does anyone still remember why for the first place the Israeli army is acting now? Does anyone remember the soldier who is imprisoned in Gaza?

  2. dear Ramadan, I can understand your fear though it is very hard to imagine how it really must be for you and your family.

    In our newspapers and television the Israeli soldier Gilad is mentioned so often as an official excuse to start this nightmare, that I even know his name by heart.

    But an increasing number of people doesn’t take that excuse for granted. Inch by inch, as Anja says, the public opinion is changing.

    I wish you all the best! Thanks for keeping us posted.

  3. Dear Ramadan,

    My heart is with you and all the Palestinians and Lebanese who are suffering in a terrible way at the moment. Slowly also the mainstream media here gets the real idea behind the conflict, and there are more and more voices of protest. Many people feel powerless, and indeed there is not much we can do here, except for “small” actions, like demonstrations, that inshallah will help at least a bit to raise political awareness.

    Wish you all the best, stay strong

  4. Dear Ramadan, my heart is with you and your family and all the other Palestinians and Lebanese , wgho are suffering terribly. I am so sorry that my governement instead of condemning Israel is condemning the Hamas and Hezbollah. I’m so ashamed. When will this stop. I don’t know, I hope the world will come to its senses before it is too late. Take car as much as you can and know that people here are thinking about you and praying for you. Salaam aleikum Ina
