    Break the Siege of Gaza!
Please Donate Now & Help Us Continue Our Work

ON AUGUST 23, 2008, 44 ordinary people from 17 countries sailed from Cyprus to Gaza on two, small, wooden boats, SS Free Gaza and SS Liberty. The Free Gaza Movement did what our governments would not do – we broke the Siege of Gaza through non-violent direct action. For the first time in over forty years, internationals docked at Gaza Port. For the first time in over sixty years, Palestinians freely entered and left their own country. Please help support this important work.

Israel has blocked Gaza’s ability to import fuel, spare parts, and other necessary materials for over two years. As a result, Gaza’s economy has collapsed, and 95% of Gaza’s industries have been forced to shut down. Malnutrition and unemployment rates have soared. Any action designed to harm civilians constitutes collective punishment and is illegal under international law and profoundly immoral.Israel’s repression against the civilian population of Gaza represent gross violations of human rights and constitute war crimes.

Richard Falk, UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in the OPT, recently wrote:
The landing of two wooden boats carrying human rights activists in Gaza is an important symbolic victory … Above all, what is being tested is whether the imaginative engagement of dedicated private citizens can influence the struggle of a beleaguered people for basic human rights, and whether their courage and commitment can awaken the conscience of humanity to an unfolding tragedy.

On September 22nd we’re going back to Gaza to expose the illegality of Israel’s actions, support the suffering people of Gaza, and create an open channel between Gaza and the outside world.

We began this campaign two years ago on hope alone. Many thought it couldn’t be done. We did it. We broke the siege. Now we need your help to keep going. Our goal is to raise half-a-million dollars by the end of September. Please give what you can.
