Dear friends in Palestine,
Keef halek, how are you, dear friends,
I get the news from Gaza almost every day, which is not news but the same always, except worse than the day before.
I hear people have to walk because there is no gaz. I hear that children now have started summer holidays but can’t (or shouldn’t) swim in the sea because by now it is so dirty that it would make them ill. And I know the sea is about the only thing that they can enjoy.

THIS WEEK, the Prime Minister of Canada made a dramatic statement in Parliament: he apologized to the indigenous peoples of his country for the injustices done to them for generations by successive Canadian governments.
This way, White Canada tries to make peace with the native nations, whose country their forefathers conquered and whose culture their rulers have tried to wipe out.

Ik kan je melden Anja, dat op initiatief van een aantal afdelingen, waaronder Zutphen, Leusden, Etten-Leur, Rotterdam, op het partijcongres van de PvdA vandaag de volgende actuele motie is ingediend:
Het Congres van de Partij van de Arbeid, in vergadering bijeen op 13 en 14 juni 2008 in Breda,
1) Overweegt dat: het programma voor de Kamerverkiezingen 2006 van de Partij van de Arbeid aangaande het Palestijns/Israëlische conflict het volgende stelt: “De EU moet zich krachtiger laten horen in het Midden-Oosten. Uitgangspunt is de erkenning van Israël en Palestina als twee levensvatbare staten op basis van de resoluties van de VN-Veiligheidsraad. Mensenrechten en internationaal recht staan voorop, geweldgebruik en terroristische aanslagen keuren we af. Er moet een einde komen aan de nederzettingenpolitiek en de door Israël gebouwde scheidingsmuur moet worden afgebroken. De democratisering in de Palestijnse gebieden en andere landen in de regio wordt ondersteund met een kritische dialoog.”

For the three days I’ve been in Gaza I’ve heard nothing but horror stories. My friends, the journalists, the health workers, the students, the taxi drivers, the intellectuals, they all speak with a certain heaviness and a guttural frustration that gets trapped in the back of throats, in the smoke they exhale from chain-smoked cigarettes, over and over and over.
