Gisteravond premiere in De Balie, en opening van een klein maar bijzonder filmfestival: Witnessed from Within, films gemaakt door kritische filmmakers uit Israel (joods en Palestijns). Gate 48, is opgericht door drie Israelische vrouwen die in Nederland wonen. Dit is hun eerste project, in samenwerking met United Civilians for Peace, Cinema de Balie en Eutopia.

But instead of support and solidarity from the western media, we face frequent attempts to defend the indefensible or turn fire on the Palestinians themselves.

Beste lezer van Anja’s weblog,

Hoewel ik me heel goed realiseer dat dit eigenlijk niet de plaats om dit te doen, kan ik het toch niet laten.
Uit de vele stukken die Anja heeft geschreven over de uiterst schrijnende situatie in de Gazastrook, en zeker uit het stuk van vandaag moge duidelijk zijn dat (zelfs) het werk van het NCCR, het geven van goede, verantwoorde thuiszorg aan gehandicapten, onder enorme druk komt te staan. Het alsmaar groeiende aantal aanmeldingen van nieuwe cliënten(mede het gevolg van het stoppen van andere organisaties) kan nauwelijks meer worden opgevangen door de huidige drie teams.

Er zijn veel meer katten in Jeruzalem dan in Gaza. Er zat een oude meneer op een bankje die een pitabroodje zat te eten met een blikje tonijn. Er kwamen steeds meer Palestijnse poezen op de geur af, en dan kregen ze een stukje, maar mij met de camera vonden ze toch te eng, en dan renden ze weer weg. Ik wilde ze niet van hun maaltijd afhouden. Er was maar een poes die op de foto wilde. Voor Helma.

Bush should stay home

If George Bush were a true friend of Israel, he would seize the investigation against Prime Minister Ehud Olmert as an excuse to stay home tomorrow. Unless he has a rabbit in his hat, this will be the third time in the past half year that the U.S. president shows the Palestinians and the entire Arab world that they are wasting their time by trying to end the occupation by peaceful means. Not only have matters not improved since he troubled dozens of leaders from around the world to come to Annapolis in late November, 2007; since then, the occupation has been progressing, while the vision of two states has been receding. The number of new buildings erected in the settlements in the last few months rivals only the number of roadblocks that have been added since Bush last visited Jerusalem, in January.
