Fifth column, traitors, collaborators – this is what Hamas spokesmen call those whom they hold responsible for the civil war in the Gaza Strip. They point to a “treacherous stream in the Fatah movement,” warning that Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas is “incapable of taking control of it.” They are referring to Mohammed Dahlan and his associates.

How troublesome the Muslims of the Middle East are. First, we demand that the Palestinians embrace democracy and then they elect the wrong party – Hamas – and then Hamas wins a mini-civil war and presides over the Gaza Strip. And we Westerners still want to negotiate with the discredited President, Mahmoud Abbas. Today “Palestine” – and let’s keep those quotation marks in place – has two prime ministers. Welcome to the Middle East.

The old dream of Ariel Sharon is becoming a reality: Palestinians are killing Palestinians, and Israel is counting the number of victims with great satisfaction. The tears of Israeli leaders are crocodile tears, and their claims that they are sorry for the tragic developments in Gaza are mere hypocrisy. The bloody confrontations were predictable, and the Israeli-US responsibility and active involvement are crystal clear.

Dinsdag, Den Haag dag.
Dus vandaag even kort. Israelisch minister van Buitenlandse Zaken Tzipi Livni is even bij de EU ministers langs geweest om ze instructies te geven. Die luiden: Hamas en dus nu Gaza, blijven boycotten, en Abbas ondersteunen. En het ziet er naar uit dat de EU zal doen wat Israel van ze wil.
