Lie #1: Israel is only targeting legitimate military sites and is seeking to protect innocent lives. Israel never targets civilians.

The Gaza Strip is one of the most densely populated pieces of property in the world. The presence of fighters within a civilian population does not, under international law, deprive that population of their protected status, and hence any assault upon that population under the guise of targeting fighters is, in fact, a war crime.

Three hours after the Israel Defense Forces began their ground operation in the Gaza Strip, at about 10:30 P.M. Saturday night, a shell or missile hit the house owned by Hussein al A’aiedy and his brothers. Twenty-one people live in the isolated house, located in an agricultural area east of Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighborhood. Five of them were wounded in the strike: Two women in their eighties (his mother and aunt), his 14-year-old son, his 13-year-old niece and his 10-year-old nephew.

Intifada, dames en heren, betekent letterlijk ‘afschudden’, het afschudden van overheersing dus, het opstaan uit de onderwerping, en het is een ander woord geworden voor volksopstand. In dat woord is niet besloten hoe die volksopstand er uitziet of er uit zou moeten zien, geweldloos of gewapend. Het betekent dus gewoon: verzet.

Meer dan 500 Palestijnse doden. Er is minstens één Israëlische soldaat gedood, er gaan geruchten dat het er meer zijn, want er wordt nu zwaar gevochten, behalve dat de bombardementen uit de lucht nog steeds doorgaan. Maar er zijn nog steeds geen journalisten in Gaza, en het Israelische leger is niet scheutig met het geven van de werkelijke feiten.

Mijn naam is Jaap Hamburger en ik vertegenwoordig vandaag de stichting Een Ander Joods Geluid.

Toen de Duitsers in 1940 Parijs hadden bezet, spoedden zij zich naar het atelier van de toen al beroemde Picasso. Daar hing zijn schilderij Guernica,een aanklacht tegen een bombardement door Duitse vliegtuigen op een Spaans dorp.

‘Gisteren werd er over de hele wereld gedemonstreerd tegen de israelische aanval in Gaza.
Zo ook binnen Israel. Gisteren gingen we in Sakhnin, een palestijns stadje in Galilea dat 25.000 inwoners heeft, met ruim 100.000 mensen de straat op.
De demonstratie gisteren werd georganiseerd door het committee van arabische leiders. Dit zijn de burgemeesters van de arabische steden en dorpen, de arabische knesseth leden, en verder iedereen die belangrijk is.

The legend, lest it be a true story, tells of how the late mathematician, Professor Haim Hanani, asked his students at the Technion to draw up a plan for constructing a pipe to transport blood from Haifa to Eilat. The obedient students did as they were told. Using logarithmic rulers, they sketched the design for a sophisticated pipeline. They meticulously planned its route, taking into account the landscape’s topography, the possibility of corrosion, the pipe’s diameter and the flow calibration. When they presented their final product, the professor rendered his judgment: You failed. None of you asked why we need such a pipe, whose blood will fill it, and why it is flowing in the first place.
